1. What is Small Form Factor (S.F.F)?

Any computer designed specifically to minimise the amount of space that is taken up is typically considered small form factor (S.F.F). The main motivator for the development of S.F.F connectors is an evolving demand for smaller components in network systems. It is the crucial component that drives the entire system operation as they can fit into smaller spaces and consume less power so that it is possible to get many more interfaces on a single card. They can be packaged and mounted in diverse ways than larger boards, which creates flexibility and versatility. The reduction of size, weight, and power consumption (SWaP) has been continuously emphasised as more computer systems demand smaller processor and network connectivity solutions. As a result, application such as automation and transportation which demand more differently stackable ways often employ small form factors architecture.

1-1 Ruggedised Open Standard PCIe/104 Facilitate Flexible Expansion

Choosing an embedded architecture for computer systems can be a formidable task. This kind of stackable and mezzanine architecture often results in tradeoffs that include off-the-shelf or custom design requirements. PCIe/104 compact, ruggedised, easily expandable traits support a lot of expansion flexibility in systems. Because of its exceptional advantage, 7STARLAKE can configure a PCe/104 system to meet users’ exact needs easily by stacking boards on top of each other. This architecture evolved to address these resulting issues by keeping the common background while eliminating limitations. OXY5741A employs PCIe/104 technology to reduce constraints and create elasticity of expansion. Its M.2 extension offers M-key (M-Key 2280 optional), and PCIe 3.0 x 4 NVMe. Additionally, OXY5741A provides 3.0 ports for data redundancy by supporting RAID 0/1. If clients desire additional functionality later, just add another board to the stack.

PCIe/104 type II (G1)

Powered by PCH-CM246, PCIe/104 type II bring PCIe x4 bus to GPU, such as SK221 carrier module to extend the first Quadro P5000 GPU.

FPE (G2~G4)

Xeon E-2276ML processor belonging to Coffee-Lake (H) platform, which can provide FPE up to PCIe x16 signal upstream supporting three more Quadro P5000 MXM (G2~G4) via SK229 (FPE to Mini SAS riser card) and SK224 (Mini SAS to MXM riser card).

1-2 Ruggedised Stackable PCI/e 104 Examples

The above are two ruggedised stackable PCI/e 104 examples that can give clients clear idea about what 7STARLAKE is capable of. On the left hand side is SK221, a PCIe/104(StackPC) carrier module is designed to offer up to 4 independent displays by MXM interface under extended temperature from -40°C ~ 85°C. SK221 is equipped with 4 x miniDP, 1 x VGA (2 x 5 pin header) which can support GPU up to NVIDIA GeForce GTX1080M. SK221 possess the flexibility of switching the signals between FPE connector (PCIe x16), StackPC (PCIe x1, x4) via dip switch thus is best solution for multi-graphic processors demand applications like mission control room, intelligent information entertainment, 19” rack-mount multi node rugged servers, etc.

Below SK221 is SK502, PCIe/104 Dual 10GbE board is a dual-port 10 Gigabit Ethernet controller for PCIe/104 platforms. Powered by Intel’s X710 Ethernet Controller, the PCIe/104 Dual 10GbE provides support for network and server virtualization as well as LAN and SAN flexibility while maintaining reliable performance. This product is ideal for adding high speed 10GbE connectivity to embedded systems.

2. High Performance and Fast Storage

Today, ruggedised systems or computers are expected to possess speedy and smooth response times. In light of making these systems render high performance, NVMe protocol which delivers a high-bandwidth and low-latency user experience is profoundly employed. NVMe is a communication interface and driver that defines a command set and feature set for PCIe-based SSDs with the goals of presenting increasing and efficient performance on a broad range of enterprise and client systems. Via accessing a PCIe module that supports a huge number of parallel command queues, NVMe can effortlessly access flash storage. This platform incorporates Intel® Xeon E-2276ME with 6 cores. OXY5741A supports up to 128GB of dual-channel DDR4 2666MHz memory and features an M.2 M-Key 2280 slot for NVMe / PCIE Gen3x4 high-speed PCIe SSD storage, thus offering extremely high data speeds for processing. The above features make OXY5741A an outstanding solution for applications that demand high performance in a compact form factor.

3. Rich I/O Supporting Configuration Flexibility

OXY5741A's rich I/O provides embedded system developers with diverse embedded applications. It features multiple displays, including up to 3 x DisplayPort and DVI-D display port with dual channel 24bit LVDS. OXY5741A also reserves various expansion flexibility such as StackPC + FPE for Stackable PCIe/104 module expansion and 2 x Full-size mPCIe for compact and rugged storage option. The board further includes 2 COM ports, 6 USB ports, 2 Gbe LANs and 4 SATA 3.0, helping system integrators develop solutions quickly.

4. DDR4 2400 128GB Optimised Performance

When it comes to computing performance, speed and power are what matter most. Short response time for a given piece of work, short data transmission time and speedy data compression and decompression all are accountable for eminent computer performance. In order to fulfil the needs of our clients, OXY5741A is built in 4x DDR4-32GB SO-DIMMs up to 128GB to deliver optimisation of the performance. Adding DDR4-128GB not only maximises CPU and computing performance, but also enables more robust and responsive virtual machines and applications. Taking advantage from the cutting edge DRAM technology, OXY5741A XEON EBX SBC can optimise system performance by accelerating the memory capacities of servers.
